Unlock All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker: A Guide
Quick Links
Hyper Light Breaker offers players an expansive range of gameplay options, including a diverse roster of characters known as Breakers. Each Breaker has a unique playstyle, making the battle against the Abyss King a thrilling experience tailored to your preferred combat strategy.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward compared to other roguelikes, but the game doesn't explicitly detail the process. This guide aims to clarify how to obtain new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of the game. As of the release, only two characters are unlockable, but we'll keep this guide updated as more Breakers become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, you'll need to collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by the Crowns (bosses). To reach these bosses, you must first acquire Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can locate Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a boss, return to the teleporter at the Cursed Outpost and select the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones to unlock the chosen character, making them available for play. Currently, there are nine characters in the game, but only two are unlockable at this stage. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker comes equipped with a SyCom, a key item that defines their base stats and core perk, thus shaping their playstyle. Your choice of character will largely depend on these SyComs. Below is a detailed look at each character and their playstyles.
Vermillion
Vermillion is your starting character, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his ranged combat capabilities. His Rail shots have a unique feature where a critical hit guarantees the next shot will also be a critical hit.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can switch to the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers superior defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, designed for Rail-oriented combat, increasing damage after picking up a Battery. Her distinguishing feature is the Warrior SyCom, which enhances her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis becomes exceptionally powerful with the Warrior SyCom, potentially surpassing other Breakers in terms of raw stats as she accumulates upgrades, turning her into a formidable force on the battlefield.
Goro
Goro specializes in ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom that accelerates his Blade skill charging while shooting. The unlockable Sniper SyCom further increases his critical hit rate.
Goro embodies the archetype of a ranged glass cannon, boasting higher damage output than Vermillion and Lapis but lacking in defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro can lead to highly effective combat, rewarding skilled players with significant impact in battles.
