Ubisoft Comments on Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak
Yesterday, on February 24, we brought you the news that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had been leaked online, with numerous individuals streaming the game a full month before its official release date on March 20. Over the weekend, the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit highlighted now-deleted social media posts revealing that physical copies of the game were being sold prematurely, and multiple streams of the unreleased game surfaced on platforms like Twitch.
In response to these leaks, Ubisoft, the developer and publisher behind the game, has issued a statement on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. They acknowledged that some players had gained early access to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft emphasized that the development team is still fine-tuning the game with patches to ensure the best possible experience at launch. They stressed that any footage currently circulating online does not reflect the final quality of the game.
Ubisoft expressed disappointment over the leaks, noting that they can reduce the excitement for players eagerly awaiting the game. They urged the community to refrain from sharing spoilers and thanked those who have already taken measures to prevent spoiling the experience for others. Ubisoft encouraged fans to "stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers," and to look forward to official updates in the coming weeks, reminding everyone that the official release on March 20 is approaching soon.
These leaks pose yet another challenge for Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed franchise. The development team previously had to apologize for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission and for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan. Initially slated for a November release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows saw its launch date pushed back first to February 14, and then to the current date of March 20. Amidst struggling sales of recent releases and investor backlash, Ubisoft is counting on a strong performance from this latest installment in the series.
