SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Emio: The Smiling Man’, ‘Gundam Breaker 4’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales
Hello gaming enthusiasts, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's update features a substantial lineup of new game releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of sales. Let's dive into the games!
Featured New Releases
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)
The Famicom Detective Club franchise returns after a long hiatus with an all-new case. This entry stays true to the original games' style, both in its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery unfolds, presented similarly to the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the latest serial murder case? My review is coming soon.
Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)
Mikhail's comprehensive review provides a detailed look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short, you build and battle Gunplas. While the Switch version naturally lags behind other platforms in performance, it's still a satisfying experience. Read Mikhail's insightful review for a complete picture.
Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)
Tengo Project continues its streak of successful remakes with Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn. Unlike their previous 16-bit remakes, this one adapts an 8-bit classic, resulting in a more significant departure from the source material. However, it's a solid action-platformer with a classic feel. My review will be available early next week.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)
A departure from its predecessor, Valfaris: Mecha Therion is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the genre shift may surprise some, it's a worthwhile experience. My review is forthcoming.
Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)
I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails, but the food imagery is stunning. Is it about photography? Hidden secrets? Perhaps Mikhail will investigate further.
Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)
For monster truck enthusiasts, Monster Jam Showdown offers local and online multiplayer, various game modes, and a decent, if not groundbreaking, experience.
WitchSpring R ($39.99)
This appears to be a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, however, it's a more significant investment.
Depths of Sanity ($19.99)
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. You investigate your missing crew in a vast, dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms.
Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)
A farming and action game where a vegan vampire son rebels against his neck-biting father.
Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)
A marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect.
Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)
A kid-friendly firefighting game with 20 missions.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)
A hoverboarding cat slices and dices enemies in this action game. The Switch version reportedly has technical issues.
Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter where you play as a transforming robot.
EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
An early expansion pack featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro.
The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)
A horror/survival/roguelite game with online multiplayer for up to ten players.
Can of Wormholes ($19.99)
A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, deal with worms.
Ninja I & II ($9.99)
Two NES-style microgame collections with ninja themes and local multiplayer.
Dice Make 10! ($3.99)
A puzzle game where you arrange dice to make rows or columns that add up to ten.
