Star Wars Outlaws Underperforms, Outsold by Jedi: Survivor

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws, the franchise's first open-world title, is facing significant challenges. Released in August 2024, the game, despite initially positive reviews, has underwhelmed both critics and players, resulting in disappointing sales figures and a subsequent drop in Ubisoft's stock price. The game's combat and stealth mechanics have been widely criticized.

Adding to Ubisoft's woes, reports indicate that Star Wars Outlaws is being outsold by 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. While precise sales figures remain unavailable, Star Wars Outlaws' performance is significantly below expectations, ranking only 47th in European video game sales for 2024. This contrasts sharply with the success of Jedi: Survivor, a critically acclaimed sequel to a popular title, which benefited from a later-released console update that boosted sales.

Several factors contribute to this disparity. Jedi: Survivor built upon an established fanbase and positive reception, while Outlaws struggled to gain traction despite ongoing post-launch support. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have released DLC expansions, including "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card" featuring Lando Calrissian, and a planned "Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune" featuring Hondo Ohnaka, in an attempt to revitalize the game's performance. However, these efforts have yet to significantly impact sales. The future of Star Wars Outlaws remains uncertain.
