"Split Fiction Reaches 2 Million Sales in One Week"
Hazelight Games is celebrating a stellar launch for their latest co-op adventure game, Split Fiction, which has sold an impressive 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly become a notable success for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The game's initial sales update highlighted that 1 million copies were sold within the first 48 hours of its launch, showcasing the immediate popularity of Mio and Zoe's sci-fi narrative. In the following five days, another million copies were sold, underscoring the game's continued momentum.
As a co-op game, Split Fiction benefits from a potentially larger player base than the number of units sold, thanks to its innovative Friend's Pass feature. This allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play at no extra cost, further amplifying its reach within the gaming community. With the game's popularity continuing to surge on social media, the 2 million sales figure is expected to grow even more.
Hazelight's previous title, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory of success. It sold around 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's Split Fiction review, the game was praised as “an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another,” highlighting its dynamic gameplay and engaging narrative.
