Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has poured cold water on hopes of a swift release for the highly anticipated third film, Beyond the Spider-Verse. He revealed he hasn't even begun recording his lines yet.

Speaking to Decider, Jerome confirmed that production hasn't commenced. He stated that many aspects of the presumed finale are still "being figured out." This news, while disappointing to fans eager for a sequel, isn't entirely surprising given the five-year gap between the first and second films.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about production starting. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things are being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively small, his involvement in the third installment promises to be significantly larger. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: He's poised to play the main antagonist. Jerome portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who appears at the film's conclusion, not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.

This Miles's journey differs drastically from the protagonist's. The radioactive spider that was meant to bite the main Miles instead bit this version, altering his destiny. Consequently, Miles G. Morales never became Spider-Man. Following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, New York fell under the control of supervillains, and he ultimately joined their ranks.

The unfolding of this narrative, and its collision with the main Miles's story, will be central to Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans face a considerable wait. Deadline suggests a 2026 release at the earliest, although maintaining the previous film's release schedule would push it to 2028.
