Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans

Ubisoft is setting sail towards making Skull and Bones Year 2 the most expansive and thrilling chapter yet for this multiplayer pirate adventure, with a treasure trove of new content including new modes, ships, the legendary Kraken, and the much-anticipated addition of land combat.

In a recent Year 2 showcase, Ubisoft unveiled its ambitious roadmap for the upcoming year. The spotlight, however, was on Season 3: Guts and Glory, slated for this fall, which will introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this since the game's initial launch in February last year.

PlayDuring Season 3, players will finally be able to step off their ships and engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord update, which will see players exploring sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what's to come, although full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the headline feature of Skull and Bones Year 2, the year is packed with other exciting updates. Kicking off today, April 15, Season 1: Ascent into Chaos introduces a new item ascension feature for enhanced loot, challenging World Tiers, the Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set to launch in summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. And as winter approaches, Season 4: Eye of the Beast will introduce the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

PlayIf these updates sound exciting, you won't have to wait long to experience them. Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21, giving players the chance to dive into pirate PvP action and purchase the game at a special, yet-to-be-announced discount.

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did mention that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
