Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It
Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast in a brand-new teaser trailer, prompting even the Sonic Movie account to offer some unsolicited design advice. In a humorous TikTok video, the account showcased Sonic's own design evolution, highlighting the transformation from his initially criticized live-action appearance to his much-improved redesign. The video, a playful jab at Shrek's new look, features the caption "advice for green ogres."
IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 Sonic the Hedgehog movie revealed a design that sparked considerable debate among fans, with critiques focusing on aspects like Sonic's teeth, physique, eyes, and fingers. Director Jeff Fowler responded to the negative feedback by redesigning the character, resulting in a significantly more positive reception.
While the reaction to Shrek's new look isn't as intensely negative as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's playful TikTok response has entertained fans. Comments include expressions of surprise and amusement at the unexpected crossover advice.
Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5 remained largely dormant until 2023, when Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its development and hinted at a potential Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures subsequently shifted the release date to December 23, 2026, moving *Minions 3* to fill the original *Shrek 5* slot.
