SF6 Unveils Sleep-Themed "Sleep Fighter" Tournament
A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament in Japan prioritizes sleep, penalizing insufficient rest. Learn more about the "Sleep Fighter" tournament and its notable participants.
Japan's "Sleep Fighter" SF6 Tournament: Sleep or Lose!
This official Capcom-backed event, organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid Drewell, introduces a groundbreaking concept: sleep points.
The tournament is a team-based competition (three players per team) where points are awarded for wins and, crucially, for sleep. Teams compete in best-of-three matches.
Sleep Points Matter:
In the week leading up to the August 31st event, each team member must log at least six hours of sleep nightly. Failing to reach a collective 126 hours results in a five-point penalty for every hour short. The team with the most total sleep time also gets to choose the tournament's match conditions.
SS Pharmaceuticals highlights the importance of sleep for peak performance, launching the "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First" campaign to raise awareness. The Sleep Fighter tournament is reportedly the first esports event to penalize sleep deprivation.
The tournament, held at Ryogoku KFC Hall Tokyo, has limited in-person attendance (100 people, lottery selection). However, the action will be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch for global viewing. Specific broadcast details will be announced on the official website and Twitter (X) account.
Top Players Compete:
The Sleep Fighter tournament features a roster of prominent professional players and streamers, including two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief and top SF player Dogura, promising a thrilling display of skill and (hopefully) well-rested competitors.
