Saros Is Housemarque’s Successor to Returnal, Arriving in 2026
Housemarque's next title, Saros, a successor to the acclaimed 2022 roguelite Returnal, is set for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro. The game, unveiled during the recent PlayStation State of Play, features actor Rahul Kohli.
The reveal trailer showcases classic Housemarque hallmarks. Players assume the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in an eclipse and menaced by formidable entities. The emphasis on "coming back stronger" and the spectacular displays of projectile combat strongly suggest a roguelite experience with the studio's signature bullet-hell action.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the pinnacle of Housemarque's gameplay-focused design philosophy. While a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal.
However, significant gameplay differences distinguish Saros from its predecessor. According to Louden's PlayStation Blog post, Saros introduces persistent resources and progression. While the game world shifts after player death, weapon and suit upgrades are permanent.
Further details, including an extended gameplay preview, are promised later this year. For a complete summary of the PlayStation State of Play announcements, visit our recap.
