Robert Eggers Helms Labyrinth Sequel
Robert Eggers, known for his gothic horror film "Nosferatu," is set to take on a new challenge by writing and directing a sequel to the cherished classic, "Labyrinth." According to Variety, Eggers will collaborate with Sjón, his co-writer from "The Northman," to bring this sequel to life. This project follows a previous attempt to create a sequel, which was spearheaded by Scott Derrickson, the director of "Sinister." However, with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to proceed with Eggers' vision.
Originally released in 1986, "Labyrinth" featured David Bowie as the enigmatic Goblin King Jareth, who abducts the baby brother of Jennifer Connelly's character. She embarks on a journey through a mesmerizing dark fantasy realm, aided by a cast of Jim Henson's iconic puppets, to rescue her sibling.
In addition to the "Labyrinth" sequel, Eggers is also directing a werewolf film titled "Werwulf," slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English, promising an immersive historical experience with the inevitable transformation of a character into a fearsome wolf creature.
Eggers' most recent work, "Nosferatu," a remake of the 1922 silent film by F.W. Murnau, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th century Germany, the movie follows a young real estate agent tasked with selling a castle to a mysterious count in Transylvania. As the transaction unfolds, dark and vampiric nightmares begin to haunt him and his wife, Ellen. "Nosferatu" has garnered significant acclaim, earning four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.
