Key Features of the Beta Update

Sony's VP of Product Management, Hiromi Wakai, shared on PlayStation.Blog that the PlayStation 5 is now introducing a new beta update packed with features like personalized 3D audio profiles, enhanced Remote Play settings, and adaptive charging for controllers.

A highlight of this update is the ability to tailor 3D audio profiles for your headphones and earbuds. This feature allows you to customize your gaming audio to match your unique hearing profile. By using devices such as the Pulse Elite wireless headset or Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, you can run sound tests to create an audio profile that optimizes your gaming experience. This personalization enhances immersion, making it easier to pinpoint characters and objects within the game world.

This is especially handy for households with multiple users, as it enables the primary user to restrict Remote Play access to specific individuals. You can manage this by navigating to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play], and selecting the users who are allowed remote access.

For those with the latest, slimmer PS5 model, the update includes adaptive charging for controllers. This feature optimizes power consumption by adjusting the charging duration based on the controller's battery level when the console is in rest mode. To enable this, go to [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode], and choose [Supply Power to USB Ports] > [Adaptive]. This ensures efficient energy use by stopping the power supply to the USB port after a certain period if no controller is connected.

Global Release and Beta Participation

Currently, the beta is available to invited participants in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France. Sony intends to roll out the update globally in the coming months. Invited participants will receive an email today with instructions on how to download and join the beta. It's worth noting that some features in the beta may not make it to the final release or could be modified based on user feedback.

Wakai highlighted the crucial role of community feedback in refining these updates. "Thanks to feedback from our PlayStation community, we’ve introduced many new features and refinements over the past few years to enhance your gaming experiences on PS5," Wakai stated. Sony is eager to gather feedback from beta participants and is looking forward to bringing these new features to the global PS5 community soon.

This beta update comes after the recent Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced the ability to invite players to game sessions via a shared URL. To invite others, users can access the game session action card, choose Share Link, and scan the QR code with a mobile device to share the link. This feature, available for open sessions, has already improved the social aspect of gaming on PS5, and the new beta update builds upon this by enhancing personalization and control.
