Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the ranks of Pokémon's competitive circuit. Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, shared in a VGC interview on February 25, 2025, that while they continually assess various titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not slated for the competitive scene just yet.

In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned "Pokémon Sleep is out there too," referencing a playful April Fool's trailer for a Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he firmly stated, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

Although The Pokémon Company has not specified reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have theorized several possibilities. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets in its four months of existence.

While the app does include competitive features from the start, the community has called for better balance adjustments to address ongoing issues. Unlike the traditional Pokémon card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket offers a simplified, more accessible experience designed primarily for beginners, which might not align with the intense competitive environment.

Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, hosting a variety of events across Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will all feature prominently at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025, set to be held in Anaheim, California.
