Pokécology: The Official Guide to Pokémon Behavior and Ecosystems
Japanese Release Scheduled for June 2025
The Pokémon Company partners with Japanese publisher Shogakukan to create an authoritative encyclopedia documenting Pokémon behaviors and ecosystems. Announced on April 21, the Pokécology volume will debut in Japan on June 18, 2025.
Japanese retailers are currently accepting pre-orders for the 1,430 yen (tax included) publication. While international availability remains unconfirmed, the global Pokémon fanbase anticipates subsequent English editions following the Japanese release.
Scientific Study of Pokémon Biology
This unprecedented reference work applies scientific methodology to examine Pokémon physiology and behavior. The comprehensive guide explores feeding habits, sleep cycles, evolutionary traits, and interspecies relationships within the Pokémon ecosystem.
University of Tokyo specialists in veterinary behavior and ecology lead the project. Ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara directs the wild Pokémon research, while noted scientific illustrator Chihiro Kino provides full-color anatomical renderings of various species.
While previous Pokémon publications focused on gameplay mechanics or narrative content, this volume represents the franchise's first biologically-oriented reference work. The encyclopedia promises to deepen understanding of Pokémon as living creatures, particularly serving as an educational resource for young fans.
