Payday 3 Offline Mode Surprise!

Payday 3 is getting an offline mode later this month, but it requires an online connection. This announcement follows significant player criticism over the game's initial lack of offline play.

The Payday franchise, known for its cooperative heists and blend of stealth and action, debuted in 2011 with Payday: The Heist. Payday 3 enhanced stealth mechanics, offering players more strategic choices. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update (June 27th) introduces a new heist and the highly anticipated offline mode.

This new solo mode, launching in beta, will initially require an internet connection, though future updates aim for complete offline functionality. Even with this online requirement, solo players will no longer need to use the matchmaking system. This addresses a major complaint alongside other missing features like The Safehouse.

Payday 3's Offline Mode: A Step Towards Solo Play

Starbreeze aims to refine the solo experience over time. Almir Listo, Head of Community and Global Brand Director, confirmed improvements post-beta. The June 27th update also includes a new heist, free items, enhancements, a new LMG, three masks, and the ability to name custom loadouts.

Payday 3's launch faced server problems and criticism for limited content (eight heists). While more heists are planned, they will be paid DLC, like the $10 Syntax Error heist. Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren apologized for the game's initial state in September, and the team has since released several updates.
