Nintendo Unveils Switch 1 Direct Before Switch 2 Event
Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Direct event specifically focused on the Nintendo Switch, set to take place at 7 a.m. PT on March 27. This livestreamed presentation will run for approximately 30 minutes, showcasing a variety of upcoming games for the platform. It's important to note that Nintendo has explicitly stated that this Direct will not include any updates or information about the Nintendo Switch 2, as that information will be reserved for a separate Nintendo Switch 2 Direct scheduled for 6 a.m. PT on April 2.

So, what can fans anticipate from this Nintendo Direct? Despite the buzz around the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo has a robust lineup of games still in development for the current Switch, which has impressively sold 150.86 million units to date. This massive audience ensures that game developers, publishers, and Nintendo itself will continue to support the platform. Titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam are slated for a 2025 release on the Switch, while Pokémon Legends: Z-A is expected to launch on the console sometime this year. Additionally, Hollow Knight: Silksong, announced six years ago, is confirmed to release on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Given the Switch 2's backward compatibility, fans can expect these games to be playable on both the original Switch and its successor.
This week's Nintendo Direct could serve as a final showcase for the Switch, highlighting Nintendo's last major exclusives before the focus shifts entirely to the Switch 2. Yet, Nintendo might still have some surprises in store for its dedicated fanbase.
