During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly its entire catalog for the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, several popular titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades. These titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct enhancements. The showcase began with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a new feature called "Jamboree TV." This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and gameplay integrated with the new camera accessory.

Next, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to benefit from enhanced resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will feature a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service will offer voice guidance to help players locate Shrines and Koroks, as well as the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is getting a significant upgrade with a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled "Star-Crossed World," along with improved graphics and framerates.

New releases such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also receiving enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby to access the new features.

The presentation also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, featuring exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.

Nintendo sparked curiosity about these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week with a webpage mentioning them in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. It noted that these upgraded versions cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
