Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories Price Hike Sparks Fan Outrage
Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accompanying accessories. While the console's price remains steady, the cost of accessories has seen an increase, sparking varied reactions among fans and potential early adopters.
The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, with the bundle that includes Mario Kart World set at $499.99. The beloved kart racer, Mario Kart World, will be available as a standalone game for $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza comes in at $69.99.
However, it's the accessories where fans will notice the price hike. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
Nintendo's official announcement highlighted that these price adjustments are due to shifts in market conditions since the April 2 announcement. The most significant increases include a $5 bump for high-demand items like the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera. The Switch 2 Dock Set saw a more substantial $10 increase, now priced at $119.99 from the previous $109.99.
The reaction from fans has been mixed, with many expressing concern over the steep price of additional Joy-Con 2 controllers, which now hover just below the triple-digit mark. This has led to some confusion and frustration among prospective buyers.
Despite the pricing concerns, there's a silver lining for current Nintendo Switch owners: many Switch 1 accessories are compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will also work with compatible games on the Switch 2.

The online community is abuzz with discussions about the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories and the potential use of third-party controllers. While these alternatives may not offer all the features of Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or console wake-up functionality, they could be a cost-saving option for some buyers.
Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments may occur depending on market conditions. However, the ability to use existing Pro controllers with the Switch 2 offers some relief to those concerned about the new accessory prices.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025, giving fans a chance to secure their console ahead of its official release.
