The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has exciting developments as John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, renowned for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay. This announcement marks a significant step forward for the film, which is based on Hasbro's iconic board game. Notably, Margot Robbie will produce the movie under her production banner, LuckyChap.

Daley and Goldstein, who recently helmed the original film Mayday, bring a wealth of experience to the project. Their previous writing credits include major films such as The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and talent in crafting engaging narratives.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Initial interest from Ridley Scott in 2007 led to script development by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski in 2011, but the project stalled. Subsequent attempts in 2015 with a script by Andrew Niccol and involvement from Kevin Hart and director Tim Story in 2019 also did not materialize.

However, Lionsgate's recent acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has revitalized efforts, paving the way for this new iteration of the Monopoly film. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm, fans are hopeful that this version will finally "pass Go" and deliver a successful adaptation of the beloved game.
