Mastering Minecraft Campfires: Extinguishing and Obtaining

The Minecraft Campfire, introduced in version 1.14, is a versatile block with uses beyond simple decoration. It can damage mobs, create smoke signals, cook food, and even soothe bees. This guide details how to extinguish a Campfire and acquire one.

Extinguishing a Campfire

Three methods exist for extinguishing Campfire flames:

  • Water Bucket: The simplest method involves using a water bucket to douse the fire. Simply pour the water onto the Campfire block.
  • Splash Water Potion: A more resource-intensive approach utilizes a Splash Water Potion. Throw the potion onto the Campfire to extinguish it. Note this requires gunpowder and glass, making it less efficient in the early game.
  • Shovel: The least known, yet cheapest and most readily available method, is using a shovel. Right-click (or use the left trigger on consoles) the Campfire with any shovel to put it out.

Obtaining a Campfire

Acquire Campfires through these methods:

  • Natural Generation: Explore Taiga and Snowy Taiga villages, and Ancient City camps for naturally generated Campfires. Remember, harvesting a pre-placed Campfire requires a Silk Touch enchanted tool; otherwise, you'll only receive coal (two in Java, four in Bedrock).
  • Crafting: Craft Campfires using sticks, wood, and either charcoal (for a regular Campfire) or soul sand (for a soul fire).
  • Trading: Trade emeralds with an apprentice fisherman. The cost is five emeralds in Bedrock and two in Java.
