Mass Effect 5 Graphics: Not Veilguard or Pixar Style
Mass Effect fans who have been concerned about how BioWare will handle the franchise's next game, especially in light of the stylistic choices made in Veilguard, can rest assured. Mass Effect 5's project director has addressed these concerns directly.
Mass Effect's Mature Tone Lives On In Mass Effect 5
Mass Effect's Next Game Will Remain Photorealistic and Mature
The upcoming installment in the Mass Effect series, tentatively known as "Mass Effect 5," will continue to uphold the mature and photorealistic tone established by the original trilogy. The Mass Effect series has been celebrated for its critical acclaim, realistic visuals, and compelling storytelling that tackles intense and cinematic themes, as noted by trilogy game director Casey Hudson.
With the established brand of this sci-fi series in mind, Mass Effect 5's project director and executive producer, Michael Gamble, recently used X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the direction of the next game. This comes at a time when BioWare’s latest Dragon Age title, Dragon Age: Veilguard, is set to release on October 31.
One of the primary concerns among fans has been the noticeable shift in tone and style seen in Veilguard, which some perceive as adopting a Disney or Pixar-like visual aesthetic. This has led to apprehension about how it might influence Mass Effect 5.
In response to these concerns, Michael Gamble assured fans that Veilguard's stylistic choices will not impact Mass Effect 5. "Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs...and has to have different kinds of love," Gamble explained. He further emphasized in another tweet that "Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I'm gonna say for now."
Gamble also addressed the comparisons to Pixar regarding Dragon Age, stating he's not sure he agrees "with the Pixar thing," and reiterated that Mass Effect will remain photorealistic "as long as I'm running it." While specifics about Mass Effect 5 remain under wraps, fans can expect the franchise to stay true to its military sci-fi roots, particularly in terms of visual style.
N7 Day 2024 Could Bring New Mass Effect 5 Trailer or Announcement
As N7 Day, also known as Mass Effect Day, approaches on November 7, fans are eagerly anticipating what BioWare might reveal. Historically, this day has been used to make significant announcements about the Mass Effect series. In 2020, the community was thrilled with the announcement of the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition trilogy remaster pack.
Last year's N7 Day provided fans with a series of cryptic posts about Mass Effect 5, stirring excitement about the game's storyline, potential character returns, and even the working title. These teasers included clips featuring a mysterious character in a full-face helmet and suit adorned with an N7 logo.
The culmination of these teasers was a 34-second clip, and since then, little else has been shared about Mass Effect 5. However, fans remain hopeful that N7 Day 2024 will bring a new trailer or a major announcement to further illuminate the future of this beloved franchise.
