Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era
Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking us on a thrilling adventure set after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Picture this: Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa, working together to build the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, fresh off his acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the helm as writer for this new volume. The legendary Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the art, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing stunning cover art for the first issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars series unfolds roughly two years after Return of the Jedi, picking up the pieces after the final showdown between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at Jakku. The New Republic is striving to establish its authority, but the path is far from smooth. Opportunistic pirates, cunning thieves, and other nefarious villains are ready to exploit the power vacuum, creating exciting new challenges for our beloved heroes.
“Now that we’ve concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can accelerate into a new, uncharted era, introducing fresh galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our heroes to confront,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be action-packed, filled with the character moments Star Wars fans cherish, offering unique twists on the familiar galaxy. We've designed these stories for easy access, making each issue an enjoyable entry point for new and returning readers.”
“Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting incredible storylines and new characters for this series, and I’m incredibly excited to bring them to life!” Noto added. “It’s been a rewarding challenge to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, creating new looks while drawing inspiration from the actors of the 80s to capture the essence of this timeline.”
Star Wars #1 blasts off on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
And that’s not all! Marvel isn't stopping there. In February, they'll launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey in the wake of The Last Jedi. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of the Star Wars franchise, including a look at what's in store for 2025 and a comprehensive list of all upcoming Star Wars movies and series.
