Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

On January 19th, a temporary suspension of TikTok's US operations unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary). This resulted in a 24-hour outage before the game was restored, though in-app purchases remain unavailable.

The disruption stemmed from the ongoing political uncertainty surrounding TikTok's future in the US. Facing a 90-day deadline to sell a 50% stake to a local owner, the company and its associated projects, including Marvel Snap, risk further blockages if the deal fails. This has prompted Second Dinner Studios, Marvel Snap's developer, to explore switching publishers and internalizing some services to mitigate future risks. An official statement on Platform X confirmed these plans.

While the game is now partially operational, players experienced authorization issues, though PC users via Steam remained unaffected. Second Dinner expressed surprise at the event and assured players via Platform X: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.” The lack of prior warning caused significant frustration, particularly for those who made in-game purchases before the outage. Further updates are promised from Second Dinner Studios.
