Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal
Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on mid-season player rank resets following significant player feedback. Read on to learn about the revised updates and future developments.
Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan
Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised
Marvel Rivals has retracted its previous announcement regarding mid-season rank resets, as detailed in Dev Talk 10. The official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account released a follow-up update (Dev Talk 11) addressing player concerns.
The initial plan, outlined in Dev Talk 10, involved a four-division rank drop every 45 days (mid-season). This sparked considerable backlash from players who felt the system was discouraging, particularly for those striving to climb the ranks.
Dev Talk 11 confirms that the mid-season rank reset is cancelled. Players will retain their end-of-first-half season rank and score. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains, with a six-division drop.
Human Torch, The Thing, and Other Updates Remain
Despite the reversal on mid-season resets, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated release of Human Torch and The Thing will still occur, expanding the hero roster to 39. NetEase Games previously committed to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season.
Rewards for players who achieve Gold rank and above remain unchanged. Players reaching Gold rank after the update will receive a free Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above players will receive Crests of Honor. Further rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), are slated for those reaching Gold rank at the end of the season.
Balance adjustments are also planned for a post-mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
Responsive Community Engagement
Marvel Rivals' swift response to player feedback is noteworthy. Within hours of publishing Dev Talk 10, they addressed concerns with the immediate release of Dev Talk 11.
The developers emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Marvel Rivals page for the latest news and updates.
