NetEase Games, developer and publisher of the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players using mods. The company explicitly stated that any modification of the game, regardless of whether it's cosmetic or provides gameplay advantages, violates the terms of service and risks a permanent ban.

This warning follows the release of Season 1, which introduced hero adjustments, added Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic to the playable roster (with Human Torch and The Thing slated for future updates), and attempted—unsuccessfully—to deter modding. Despite initial efforts to block modifications by checking asset hashes, workarounds quickly emerged.

One such workaround, detailed by IGN, allows players to bypass NetEase Games' anti-modding measures. The mod, available on Nexus Mods, was created by user Prafit, who explicitly warned users of the potential ban risk. Another mod, created by Ercuallo and shared on Twitter by RivalsLeaks, even allowed players to transform Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy.

While NetEase Games hasn't publicly confirmed any bans for modding yet, the company's stance remains firm. Although some mods, including one featuring Donald Trump, have been removed from Nexus Mods, Prafit's workaround persists with hundreds of downloads. The company's commitment to enforcing its terms of service is clear, despite past instances of erroneous bans. The future impact of this warning on the modding community remains to be seen.
