NetEase is set to roll out an innovative experimental feature in Marvel Rivals designed to enhance the game's stability and significantly reduce its memory usage. On April 30, Marvel Rivals took to Twitter (X) to announce the introduction of the Switch Shader Compilation Mode, a feature crafted to deliver a superior gaming experience, particularly for players with lower RAM setups or those concerned about FPS.

A comprehensive blog post on the Marvel Rivals website sheds light on what players can expect from this new feature. The developers have acknowledged the community's concerns about performance stutters and crashes due to high memory consumption during gameplay.

The blog elaborates, "To tackle memory overload, we're introducing an experimental feature in Season 2: the Switch Shader Compilation Mode. Players can activate this feature via the PC launcher with the Season 2 update." This feature is particularly beneficial for those with 16GB of RAM or less.

Upon activation, the game promises several improvements:

  • The shader compilation process will only initiate when first entering the game after a new game version or graphics driver update.
  • Memory usage will be significantly reduced, minimizing severe FPS drops, frozen visuals, and crashes caused by memory shortages.

However, the developers have highlighted some potential issues when using this feature. For instance, at the start of each match, some materials may render abnormally for a few frames before returning to normal. Additionally, minor stutters may occur initially but should resolve quickly, ensuring smooth gameplay for the remainder of the match.
