Marvel Rivals Developer Eyes Nintendo Switch 2 for Future Release

The widely popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, continues to enjoy massive success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has remained firm on not bringing the game to the current Nintendo Switch, leaving fans on that platform out of the gaming fun. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer, Weicong Wu, about the possibility of a Switch 2 release. Exciting news for Nintendo enthusiasts: a Switch 2 version could be on the horizon.

Wu shared: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation of that device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."

The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, although specifics on its capabilities remain scarce. It promises to be a more powerful and larger version of the current Nintendo Switch. Notably, it's speculated to feature a mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, potentially bringing it closer to a PC-like experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature is yet to be revealed.

While the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a release date yet, a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received a strong 8/10 in our review, where we noted that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to The Human Torch and The Thing joining the roster on February 21.
