Warhorse Studios' developers are tired of the ongoing criticism directed at Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), emphasizing their primary goal of creating an engaging video game. In a recent interview with PC Gamer on February 3, 2025, KCD2’s PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling shared his frustration regarding the backlash over the game's increased diversity.

Stolz-Zwilling stated, "We've been labeled differently over the years. Now, it's about this. It feels like there's always someone trying to pigeonhole us, yet all we want to do is craft an awesome video game." This response came after fans and critics criticized the inclusion of LGBTQ+ content and other elements deemed "woke."

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner echoed these sentiments, pointing out that the team isn't the issue. "The extreme voices are never satisfied," he remarked.

Set in Kuttenberg, KCD2 explores a more diverse environment than its predecessor. Bittner explained, "Kuttenberg, being the royal mint, attracts various ethnicities." As the second most significant city in Bohemia and a financial hub, Kuttenberg naturally hosts a melting pot of cultures, contributing to its diversity.

Bittner highlighted the inclusion of various cultures and ethnicities in the game, such as Italians, German speakers, and a Jewish quarter. He stressed the importance of not only including these groups but also reflecting their unique worldviews, which he believes is often missing in media claiming to be diverse.

Stolz-Zwilling clarified that the game's direction wasn't influenced by their publisher Plaion or Embracer, but rather by community feedback. "Every aspect of the game has been meticulously checked and rechecked for accuracy," he affirmed.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Pre-Orders Unaffected By Recent Backlash

Warhorse Studios addressed rumors about players seeking refunds for KCD2 pre-orders due to the backlash. KCD2 Writer Daniel Vávra took to Twitter (X) to clarify that the game's sales-return ratio remains unchanged despite the controversy. He noted that KCD2's position on Steam charts was affected by discounts on nine popular games, which also impacted pre-order sales of Monster Hunter: Wilds.

In January 2025, Vávra faced attacks over KCD2's queer representation, fueling rumors of a ban in Saudi Arabia due to unskippable LGBT+ scenes. He refuted these claims, emphasizing, "KCD2 is a ROLE PLAYING GAME where players make choices and face consequences aligned with the historical morals and social norms of the era."
