Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2: Script Awaits DC Studios
Keanu Reeves has delivered the most encouraging update yet on Constantine 2, confirming that a script is now in the works.
John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was memorably portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 live-action adaptation, a film that achieved cult classic status following the success of The Matrix. For over two decades, fans have clamored for a sequel, a desire Reeves has openly shared.
Now, Constantine 2 appears closer to reality than ever before, thanks to Reeves' confirmation of a recent successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.
“We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves told Inverse. “So, we're going to try and write a script.”

While this news is promising, it's crucial to remember that the Constantine 2 script still needs to receive the green light from DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The project isn't officially confirmed within the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran has publicly acknowledged it. Therefore, the sequel remains somewhat precarious.
However, Reeves hinted that, if produced, Constantine 2 will remain faithful to the original film's universe. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding with a touch of humor: "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more.”
Reeves' comments follow those made by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in September, who revealed that a Constantine 2 script existed but admitted to delaying reading it due to high expectations.
Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura stated that the script was in his inbox, explaining, "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough… I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
