Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Appearance in 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow': 'We Look Spot On'
Jason Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, is set to make a thrilling transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming movie "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," slated for release in June 2026. This film marks the second entry in the new DCU, following James Gunn's "Superman," which is scheduled for release this summer.
Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, hails from the planet Czarnia. He possesses superhuman strength and immortality, making him a formidable character. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in "Omega Men #3" in 1983. Much like Superman, Lobo is the last survivor of his now-deceased home planet.
Momoa's enthusiasm for the role is palpable. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, and he has long desired to portray him on screen. Speaking to ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nervousness about bringing Lobo to life, emphasizing the aesthetic similarities between himself and the character. He hinted at Lobo's appearance in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," suggesting that while fans will get a good look at the character, his screen time will be brief. "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," Momoa said, ensuring that the focus remains on Supergirl.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
The film will be heavily influenced by the graphic novel "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The cast includes Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it did not reveal much about the character. Gunn announced the commencement of filming on "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" via a post on Bluesky, highlighting Alcock's role as the lead.
As the DCU continues to expand, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" promises to be a significant addition, with Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo adding an exciting element to the narrative. The next DCU film, "Clayface," is scheduled for release in September 2026, further enriching the universe's cinematic offerings.
