AFK Journey Tier List

Before diving into the tier list, it's important to note that most characters in AFK Journey are viable for a wide range of content. While some excel in the most challenging endgame scenarios, you can still succeed with more average heroes.

This tier list ranks characters based on their versatility, well-roundedness, and performance across regular PvE content, Dream Realm, and PvP. Here's the breakdown:

S-Tier Characters

The introduction of Lily May has brought a new must-pull character to AFK Journey, significantly enhancing Wilder teams. She delivers massive damage and offers versatile utility as a rogue-type, capable of countering Eironn teams in PvP, pushing AFK stages, and potentially replacing Korin or Marilee in Dream Realm boss teams. She's a definite wishlist addition.

Thoran remains the top free-to-play tank, especially useful while building Phraesto, who is more of a luxury than a necessity. For Hypogean and Celestial factions, Reinier is the priority support character, excelling in both PvE and PvP, particularly in Dream Realm and Arena.

Koko and Smokey and Meerky are essential supports, with the latter being versatile across all game modes. Odie is crucial for Dream Realm and all PvE content. For PvP enthusiasts and free-to-play players, building Eironn with Damien and Arden creates a formidable Arena team.

As of November 2024, Tasi has been added to the roster, offering exceptional versatility for Wilder teams across nearly all game modes. Her crowd control abilities make her a standout, though Dream Realm might be her weakest area. Harak, a new Hypogean/Celestial character, grows stronger with each kill, making him a powerful choice for players willing to invest heavily.

A-Tier Characters

A-Tier characters like Lyca and Vala are standout choices due to their effective use of the Haste stat, which is crucial for increasing attack and skill frequency, as well as boosting animation and movement speed. Lyca boosts party Haste temporarily, while Vala gains Haste stacks upon killing marked enemies, fitting various team needs though Lyca may struggle in PvP.

If Thoran isn't available, Antandra is a reliable tank alternative, offering taunts, shields, and crowd control. Pairing Thoran and Cecia with Viperian can complete a strong Graveborn core, though Viperian's energy-draining and AoE attacks limit his Dream Realm utility.

Alsa, added in May 2024, is a solid DPS mage and a good substitute for Carolina in PvP, especially when paired with Eironn. Phraesto, introduced in June 2024, is a durable tank but lacks in damage output, making Reinier a higher priority. Ludovic, added in August 2024, is a strong healer that synergizes well with Talene and excels in PvP. Cecia, once a top-tier DPS, has been demoted to A-tier due to shifts in the meta. Sonja, introduced in December 2024, significantly boosts the Lightborne faction with her high damage and utility.

B-Tier Characters

B-Tier characters are serviceable for filling roles but aren't worth heavy investment. Valen and Brutus are solid early-game DPS options, with Brutus's spinning AoE attack being particularly effective. Granny Dahnie is a decent tank if Thoran and Antandra are unavailable, offering debuffs and heals.

Arden and Damien are essential for PvP Arena teams but less useful in other PvE modes. Florabelle, added in April 2024, supports Cecia well but isn't a must-have. Soren, introduced in May 2024, is average in PvP and underwhelming in PvE. Korin has been moved to B-tier due to reduced effectiveness in Dream Realm, where Odie now reigns supreme.

C-Tier Characters

C-Tier characters are useful early on but quickly outclassed beyond AFK level 100. Parisa, for example, served well as a team mage initially but is soon outshined. Her powerful AoE attack aids in crowd control and PvP, but she should be replaced as soon as possible.
