Excitement is building as DC's next blockbuster, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially started filming. To mark the occasion, DC's head honcho, James Gunn, took to Bluesky to share a sneak peek of Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, stepping into the iconic shoes of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The image Gunn shared captures Alcock in her actor's chair, teasing fans with what's to come.

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This announcement also confirms that Craig Gillespie, acclaimed director of Cruella and I, Tonya, will be directing the film, as previously reported last April.

While details are still under wraps, we know that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws heavily from the acclaimed graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The comic follows a gripping standalone tale of an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills. This graphic novel, which was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards, is a must-read for fans.

Joining Milly Alcock in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as the notorious Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the newly rebooted DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, which is set to hit theaters this summer. Other projects in the pipeline include The Batman Part II, which may or may not tie into Gunn's cinematic universe, and a rumored Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
