The Honkai series began with Honkai Impact 3rd, a free-to-play mobile action RPG that serves as a spiritual successor to the 2D side-scrolling shooter Houkai Gakuen 2. Subsequently, Honkai Star Rail was released in 2023, offering a free-to-play mobile experience with turn-based gameplay.
