League of Legends Back Tracks on Their Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Are Coming Back
League of Legends (LoL) is reintroducing Hextech Chests following extensive fan feedback. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games published a detailed developer update on their website, accompanied by a video on their YouTube channel, outlining the forthcoming changes.
LoL acknowledged that recent changes had not met fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we've made a number of changes that didn't hit the mark for everyone. We've been listening to your feedback, and it's clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
One significant change fans were vocal about was the removal of Hextech Chests. LoL recognized the importance of these chests, noting, "It's clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren't just a way to get stuff; they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn't fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
As a result, Hextech Chests will return starting in patch 25.05, allowing players to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan Feedback Changes
Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as they aim to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." Consequently, the entire Exalted skin line will see delays, meaning fans won't see a new Exalted skin in every Act as initially planned.
Responding to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the lack of Mythic Essence in the paid Pass and the frequency of new champion skins.
To enhance accessibility, LoL will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting in patch 25.05, following discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot Games is reversing their decision to run Clash less frequently. They've reinstated Clash to a monthly schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and April's event returning to Summoner's Rift.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Returns
In response to fan requests, LoL will bring back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, while the Emporium will return in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn't about just one set of changes. It's about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today's updates are an important step, and we'll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
Riot Games' recent actions demonstrate their dedication to listening to fans and adjusting the game accordingly to better suit their audience. League of Legends is available to play for free on PC. Stay updated with the latest news on our League of Legends page.
