Harry Potter: Magic Awakened EOS Announced, Guess The Spells Didn’t Work After All!
NetEase's collectible card role-playing game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, has recently announced its End of Service (EOS) for certain regions. As of October 29th, 2024, players in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania will see the servers go offline. However, fans in Asia and select MENA territories can continue to enjoy the game. Initially announced at NetEase Games' annual event in 2020, the game was developed by Zen Studio and first launched in China in September 2021. Global pre-registrations began in February 2022, but delays pushed the worldwide release to June 27th, which somewhat dampened the initial excitement.
Why Did They Announce The EOS Of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened?
Harry Potter: Magic Awakened promised a magical blend of Clash Royale-style gameplay with a wizardly twist, capturing the essence of Hogwarts through card-battling and dueling mechanics. Upon its release, the game was well-received, with players enjoying the immersive experience. However, it failed to maintain its early momentum. Just over a year after its global launch, the decision to shut down in several regions was made.
Community feedback on platforms like Reddit highlighted a shift in the game's dynamics, with many players feeling that the game increasingly favored those willing to spend money over those relying on skill. A significant point of contention was the reworked rewards system, which previously allowed skilled players to earn better rewards but was later altered to slow down progression for non-spending and free-to-play users. These changes, along with various nerfs, led to a decline in player satisfaction.
As of August 26th, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened has been removed from the Google Play Store in the regions facing closure. Yet, players in other regions can still dive into the magical world, experiencing life in a Hogwarts dorm, attending classes, uncovering secrets, and engaging in duels with fellow students.
Before the curtains close on Harry Potter: Magic Awakened in the affected regions, don't miss out on the excitement of the upcoming SpongeBob season in Brawl Stars, where you can go jellyfishing!
