"Lanterns" is shaping up to be a detective drama, drawing inspiration from acclaimed series like "True Detective" and "Slow Horses." The plot follows Chandler's Hal Jordan teaming up with Pierre's John Stewart to unravel a murder mystery that spirals into an even more sinister enigma. This series is confirmed to be a part of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, which also includes "Creature Commando" and the forthcoming films "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."

The creative team behind "Lanterns" includes Damon Lindelof, known for his work on "Lost," alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King. The show promises a darker, more grounded tone. James Gunn himself has described it as "very grounded, very believable, very real," suggesting a departure from what viewers might typically expect from a Green Lanterns series.

Kyle Chandler, renowned for his role in "Friday Night Lights," brings an older and seasoned Hal Jordan to the screen. Meanwhile, Aaron Pierre, who made an impact with his role in "Rebel Ridge," steps into the shoes of John Stewart. Fans can look forward to the series premiering in 2026, the same year as the "Supergirl" movie.

With its intriguing premise and talented cast, "Lanterns" is poised to be a standout addition to the DC lineup on HBO.
