GTA 6 Set for Fall 2025 Release, CEO Confirms
Grand Theft Auto 6 remains on track for a fall 2025 release, according to Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games. In its third-quarter financial report ending December 31, 2024, Take-Two confirmed GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, maintaining its previously announced release window without any delays.
Speaking to IGN ahead of the financial report's release, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed optimism about meeting the fall 2025 deadline. "Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things," Zelnick said. "So we feel really good about it." When pressed about the development progress of GTA 6, Zelnick remained tight-lipped, emphasizing Rockstar's pursuit of perfection and the competitive nature of the industry. "We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited."
The release date of GTA 6 is a major point of interest across the entertainment industry, with rival publishers closely monitoring Rockstar's moves. Earlier in the week, EA CEO Andrew Wilson hinted at potentially delaying the next Battlefield game depending on the timing of GTA 6's release.

While the release window for GTA 6 remains firm, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Trailer 2, which has yet to be unveiled. Over a year has passed since the first trailer's release, fueling intense speculation among the community. In the meantime, IGN offers further insights into GTA 6, including an ex-Rockstar developer's prediction that a decision on potential delays might not come until May 2025, Zelnick's evasive comments on a PC version, and expert analysis on whether the PS5 Pro can run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.
Take-Two also highlighted the continued success of its other titles. Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold an impressive 210 million units worldwide, with GTA Online experiencing a "strong" quarter thanks to the Agents of Sabotage update. GTA+ memberships saw a 10% year-over-year increase. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 70 million copies sold, with the highest concurrent player numbers on Steam to date.
Take-Two has a packed schedule for 2025, including the recently released Civilization 7 from Firaxis, PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25 in March, Mafia: The Old Country in the summer, GTA 6 in the fall, and Gearbox's Borderlands 4 before the year's end. The company expressed strong confidence in the commercial potential of these titles, anticipating they will have a transformative impact on the business and the industry in the long term. Take-Two also projects sequential increases in, and record levels of, Net Bookings for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
