Final Fantasy 14 recently announced via social media that Patch 7.16, set to launch on January 21, will revamp the reward system for the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid in response to player feedback. This update will enable players to exchange their surplus Clouddark Demimateria 1 for Clouddark Demimateria 2, enhancing their ability to obtain coveted items.

The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid, which debuted on December 24 following the release of Patch 7.15, challenges up to 24 players to defeat the iconic boss from A Realm Reborn's World of Darkness raid. This new raid also incorporates mechanics from the Eden raid series featured in Shadowbringers, adding a fresh twist to the encounter. Successful raiders are rewarded with Clouddark Demimateria 1 and 2, with additional amounts of the latter available for first-time clears.

Square Enix has confirmed that starting with Patch 7.16, players will be able to convert their excess Clouddark Demimateria 1 into Clouddark Demimateria 2. Although the specific exchange rate remains undisclosed, this change is expected to make it easier for players to acquire the A Half Times Two hairstyle, requiring 49 Clouddark Demimateria 2, and the Dais of Darkness mount, which demands 75 Clouddark Demimateria 2. Both items can be traded on the market board, and their prices are likely to fluctuate once the patch goes live.

The introduction of the Clouddark Demimateria exchange system in Patch 7.16 reflects Square Enix's responsiveness to player feedback. The company has also indicated that further modifications could be on the horizon, depending on ongoing player input. This patch marks Final Fantasy 14's first content update of 2025, highlighted by the conclusion of the Dawntrail Role Quest series.

While significant job balance updates are not anticipated in Patch 7.16, players can look forward to Patch 7.2 for such changes. As Final Fantasy 14 plans to roll out more raid content throughout 2025, the community's feedback will continue to play a crucial role in shaping future updates.
