FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade
It's the eve of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, with just under 24 hours until Nintendo unveils its strategy for the next generation of its iconic console. Amidst the excitement, a recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has sparked curiosity and speculation about the potential features of the Switch 2's controller lineup.
On March 31, an FCC filing surfaced, as reported by Famiboards and echoed across Nintendo-focused outlets like GoNintendo. Under the product code "BEE-008," the filing appears to be for a new game controller, which some enthusiasts speculate could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. While Nintendo has yet to officially confirm the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller, the filing hints at features such as Bluetooth and NFC capabilities, which align with what one might expect from a Pro Controller.
It's worth noting that these interpretations are speculative. However, the inclusion of a headphone jack, as suggested by the filing, would mark a significant upgrade over the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature. Competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers already include such a port, making this a potentially valuable quality-of-life enhancement for the Switch 2.
Past FCC filings have occasionally foreshadowed Nintendo's product announcements, lending some credence to the speculation surrounding this controller. Nonetheless, without official confirmation, we'll need to wait until the Switch 2 Direct for definitive details.
The Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET across Nintendo's official channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier in the year, and attendees are eager for concrete information, including a possible release date.
Nintendo has announced that the Switch 2 Direct will last an hour. Additionally, two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 sessions featuring hands-on gameplay are planned for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day. These presentations will offer fans an even deeper dive into what the Switch 2 has to offer.
