Two former Nintendo of America staff members, Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, recently shared their insights on the impact of the ongoing Switch 2 leaks on their YouTube channel. With over a decade of experience at Nintendo, they emphasized the significant disruption these leaks have caused within the company, affecting its ability to surprise fans with the upcoming console.

The leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been extensive, ranging from alleged reveal dates and game lineups to mockups and images of the console's motherboard and Joy-Con. These unofficial leaks have sparked widespread speculation and given fans a glimpse of what to expect. In their video, Ellis and Yang highlighted the internal turmoil at Nintendo, with Yang stating, "I am 100% sure that they are really mad, to the most severe level." She humorously described the heated emails, filled with numerous exclamation marks, that circulate within the company when such leaks occur.

The former PR managers discussed the chaotic and stressful environment these leaks create for Nintendo's staff. Yang described the situation as a "high stress" and "highly chaotic" environment, suggesting that the ongoing investigations are diverting attention from the crucial task of launching the new console. Ellis reassured viewers that Nintendo's dedicated investigators would eventually uncover the source of the leaks.

Both Ellis and Yang dismissed any speculation that Nintendo might be behind the leaks, with Ellis firmly stating, "Nintendo did not do this on purpose." He recounted mandatory lectures on the "value of surprise," underscoring the company's commitment to keeping new releases under wraps. The leaks, they argued, are severely disrupting Nintendo's plans to announce and launch the new console, an already challenging endeavor.

Given the magnitude of the leaks, Ellis suggested that Nintendo would need to reevaluate its product security measures. He noted that it has been eight years since Nintendo last launched a console of this scale with the original Switch in March 2017, indicating a need to update their processes for hardware reveals.

While the leaks have set certain expectations, Nintendo has yet to officially reveal any details about the Switch 2. The company has, however, confirmed that the new console will be backward-compatible with original Switch games and will feature Nintendo Switch Online. A formal announcement is expected in the first quarter of this year, with the console not launching until April 2025 at the earliest, outside of Nintendo's current financial year.
