A Decade-Long Development

The development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a long and winding journey, marked by numerous delays that have stretched its release over nearly a decade. The project, initially started in 2015 after the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, faced significant hurdles. BioWare's attention shifted to other major projects like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, pulling resources and talent away from what was then codenamed "Joplin." Additionally, the initial design didn't fit with the company's move towards live-service games, leading to a complete halt in development.

It wasn't until 2018 that The Veilguard was revived, this time under the codename "Morrison." After years of dedicated work, the game was officially announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022, before finally adopting its current title.
