Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears to focus primarily on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is relatively small (230MB on Steam, requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), suggesting it doesn't include major gameplay changes.

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2 and the recent Deathloop, is currently occupied with development of Marvel's Blade. This update, therefore, likely represents a smaller maintenance effort rather than a significant content addition. The timing is interesting, given the closure of Arkane Austin (developers of the original Dishonored and Prey) in 2024, which has impacted Arkane's overall development capacity.

The lack of a highly anticipated 60 FPS update is a source of disappointment for many players. While other Arkane titles benefit from enhanced performance on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The possibility of a future 60 FPS patch, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains open, though unlikely to satisfy players' immediate desires.

The future of the Dishonored franchise is uncertain. While a third mainline entry is desired by many fans, the closure of Arkane Austin and Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade suggest such a project is likely years away, if it is even in development.
