Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Redemptions
During Sony’s recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered stirred excitement among fans, yet it has left some PlayStation Plus subscribers feeling shortchanged due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade offer for the PS5 remastered version is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 version of the game, either on disc or digitally. Unfortunately, this means that players who received Days Gone through the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021 are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they must pay the full $49.99 to experience the PS5 remaster.
This decision has sparked a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online platforms to voice their frustrations. For instance, a post on the PlayStation Plus subreddit has garnered numerous comments from subscribers who express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee, but not the full price. Users like squarejellyfish_ argue that Sony could have generated significant revenue by allowing PS Plus players to upgrade for $10, as many would be willing to try out the remaster for a small fee. Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated they would pay the $10 but not purchase the game at full price, opting to stick with their original version instead. Dredizzle99 echoed these sentiments, pointing out that Sony might be missing out on potential sales from a large segment of their player base.
Jackanyon95 criticized Sony's decision as counterproductive, noting that since the game was previously offered for free, every $10 upgrade from PS Plus owners would have been additional revenue. They also questioned the necessity of the remaster itself. Despite the backlash, some subscribers understand Sony's financial strategy, though they still label the company as "stingy" for not extending a gesture of goodwill to their loyal fanbase.
