"Cujo Gets a New Life on Netflix: Stephen King's Classic Reimagined"
In the latest wave of Stephen King adaptations, Netflix is gearing up to unleash a new film version of the chilling novel "Cujo." According to Deadline, the project will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. However, the film is still in its early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members announced yet.
Originally published in 1981, Stephen King's "Cujo" was swiftly adapted into a cult classic horror movie in 1983, scripted by Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, and directed by Lewis Teague. The film stars Dee Wallace as a determined mother who must protect her young son from a rabid dog named Cujo. After being bitten by a rabid bat, Cujo transforms from a gentle pet into a deadly menace. The harrowing tale unfolds as the mother and son find themselves trapped in a car with a broken engine, fighting off both the relentless Cujo and the looming threat of heatstroke.

"Cujo" is just one of many Stephen King stories that have successfully transitioned to the big screen. Recently, there has been a noticeable resurgence in King adaptations. Oz Perkins' adaptation of King's short story "The Monkey" premiered in February, and fans can look forward to more King-inspired projects this year, including a new take on "The Running Man" starring Glen Powell, JT Mollner's adaptation of "The Long Walk" (also produced by Roy Lee and Vertigo Entertainment), and the IT prequel series "Welcome to Derry" on HBO. Additionally, the iconic horror movie "Carrie" is being reimagined as an eight-episode series for Prime Video, helmed by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
Stephen King enthusiasts have been treated to a feast of adaptations lately, and with Netflix's new "Cujo" on the horizon, the gourmet offerings are set to continue.
