CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”

CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, making Ciri the logical successor. Ciri's established depth and complexity, honed across books and games, offer fertile ground for new storylines.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, allowing for greater player agency in shaping her character arc—a freedom unavailable with the more established Geralt. The shift, discussed internally for nearly a decade, underscores CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's successor. Kalemba promises a new saga with equally epic challenges and perspectives.

The decision has the backing of Geralt's voice actor, Doug Cockle, who acknowledges Ciri's substantial potential as a lead character. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, ensuring a fresh narrative focus on Ciri.
