Captain America: Brave New World Eyes $100M Domestic Box Office Over Presidents Day Weekend
Captain America: Brave New World has exceeded expectations at the box office, pulling in a projected $100 million domestically over the Presidents Day holiday weekend. According to box office revenue tracker Comscore, the latest installment from Marvel Studios raked in an estimated $88.5 million across 4,105 theaters during the three-day period, with projections hitting the $100 million mark over four days. Internationally, the film added another $92.4 million, bringing its global weekend total to an impressive $192.4 million.
With a production budget of $180 million, Captain America: Brave New World needs to reach a global box office of approximately $425 million to break even. The movie has secured the fourth-best Presidents Day launch on record, following closely behind other superhero blockbusters like Black Panther ($242 million), Deadpool ($152 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million).
Despite its strong opening, Captain America: Brave New World has received mixed reviews. IGN's review gave it a 5/10, stating, "Captain America: Brave New World feels neither brave, nor all that new, falling short of strong performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly."
The film's performance is crucial for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has been facing a challenging period. All eyes are on Captain America: Brave New World to see if it can reverse the negative trend and gain momentum leading into upcoming releases like Thunderbolts* in May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
