Author : Christopher Apr 27,2025

After a 25-year hiatus, the iconic role-playing game Breath of Fire IV has been resurrected for PC users. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and in Europe a year later, its PC port followed in 2003 in Europe and Japan. The narrative centers on Ryu, a man with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, who joins forces with fellow warriors to thwart an emperor's apocalyptic ambitions.

As part of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV for contemporary PCs, making it available DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version is optimized for modern systems, ensuring compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in both English and Japanese, thanks to updated localizations. The visual experience has been significantly improved with an upgraded DirectX renderer, offering new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and enhanced gamma correction. Additionally, the audio engine has been overhauled, restoring lost environmental sounds and providing new configuration options for a richer auditory experience.
