Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Celebratory Video for 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 in a recent celebratory video, cleverly hidden in plain sight. To celebrate reaching a remarkable 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a special video on social media on April 25, 2025. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by an infected crowd wearing party hats, moving towards a church.

The video then shifts to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as a guitar, and Leon energetically fist-pumping. In the background, a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign is visible. However, when this sign is viewed sideways, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," representing the number 9.

While some might dismiss this as a coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem notes that the sign's lower plank, crucial to forming the numeral, is absent in earlier parts of the video, indicating its intentional addition. "I know what you did here," one surprised viewer commented, accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially announced that the upcoming mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, likely Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi stated at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the setting might be an island inspired by Singapore.
