Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Reportedly In the Works With Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning
Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead. Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as Buffy, albeit as a recurring character, rather than the lead. The series will focus on a new Slayer.
Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao ( Nomadland, Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon is not involved in this reboot.
Whedon's absence follows previous accusations of creating a toxic work environment on *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and its spin-off, *Angel*.Plot details remain scarce beyond the focus on a new Slayer and Gellar's potential return.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons (1997-2003), chronicling the adventures of Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight vampires and other supernatural creatures, aided by her friends Willow, Xander, and Watcher Rupert Giles. The series continued through a series of canonical comic books, and also spawned the spin-off, Angel.
