Destruction has always been a defining feature of the Battlefield series, and DICE is set to elevate the chaos to new heights with the next installment. Recently, the developer released a video and a Battlefield Labs Community Update to give fans a glimpse of what's coming. Pre-alpha footage showcased the impressive destruction mechanics, with an explosive blast demolishing a building's side, creating a new pathway through the structure.

Destruction offers players creative solutions and, according to the Community Update, DICE is enhancing gameplay depth by allowing players to reshape their surroundings. Whether it's breaking through a wall to set up an ambush or forging a new route to a key objective, manipulating the environment can be a game-changer.

"We're designing destruction around easily identifiable visual and audio language that lets you understand what can be destroyed, altered, or transformed through gameplay," DICE stated. "We aim to make destruction an integral part of your Battlefield experience to create an intuitive, fun, and rewarding environment where you feel empowered to shape the world around you."

Various impacts will affect structures differently; while explosives can cause significant damage, bullets can also gradually chip away at walls, allowing players to shoot through them. Audio and visual effects will provide feedback, ensuring players know their efforts are effective.

The aftermath of destruction will have tangible effects on the battlefield. For instance, rubble from a destroyed building can remain and be used as cover. It's clear that the next Battlefield game has a strong focus on destruction.

Referred to as "Battlefield 6," the next entry in the series is gradually coming into focus. Although official details are sparse, gameplay leaks have garnered positive feedback from the community. The game is set in a modern environment and is slated for release sometime during Electronic Arts' fiscal year 2026, spanning April 2025 to March 2026. However, release dates could shift based on moves by major competitors.

With substantial effort being put into this new entry, the upcoming Battlefield game appears to be going all out. Perfecting the level destruction mechanics is undoubtedly a promising step forward.
